Can someone go check that it isn't 2001 outside?
The eclipse, the comet, and now Daphne and Celeste's comeback. It's official - the Apocalypse is upon us.
The American teeny-pop duo had two-hit success in the UK around the year 2000 with "Ooh Stick You" and "U.G.L.Y.", before vanishing in a rain of plastic bottles being chucked at them at Reading Festival. And now, in a comeback literally no-one except people who haven't grown up in 15 years asked for, the pair have collaborated with British producer Max Tundra on new single "You And I Alone".
And the most frustrating part is - it's not bad.
The low-key, bass-driven track suggests a totally different approach to everything the band have ever learned about music. Literally, if Daphne & Celeste had decided to release this under a whole other name, we'd be none the wiser; we would just be impressed by these newcomers. Instead it's a whole other controversy, which I suppose is the point.
We'll be watching this comeback as it develops VERY CLOSELY. But also, like, from a safe distance. But if there's anything you can't fault these girls for, it's their tenacity. Check out this throwback of their Reading performance; they're POWERING through.
