Pop-punk does funk.
It's hard to deviate away from the awesome formula that composes Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars' "Uptown Funk"; but in spite of this, Fall Out Boy just played an amazing cover on Radio One's Live Lounge - and totally made it their own.
The band are in London for an intimate gig at the Islington Assembly Hall tonight, and appeared on Live Lounge yesterday - with the absence of guitarist Joe Trohman, who stayed in the US following a death in the family.
Frontman Patrick Stump cited his passion for funk as the reason they decided to cover the track, admitting "I'm a somewhat not-so-secret Prince and funk fan, so this is right up my alley. I'm very excited that this is existing on the radio right now."
Patrick's vocal range is actually an excellent fit for the track, and we really hope they record a proper studio version. Meanwhile, listen below.
Yesterday FOB were hard at work online, basically releasing their entire album track-by-track. There was a blurb included with each song on its writing process, from writer/bassist Pete Wentz, on the Fall Out Boy blog. New album American Beauty/American Psycho comes out on January 20th.
