Web Celebs are taking over!
It’s all getting a bit too much for us on Twitter right now! All our favourite social media stars took to their accounts last night to announce that they will be taking part in Season 28 of the hit reality show, The Amazing Race.
The race-around-the-world competition has featured influential YouTubers before. Remember when Joey Graceffa and Meghan Camarena (Strawburry17) took part?
It looks like they were so popular, the producers have decided to dedicate an ENTIRE season to some of the internet's most influential Web Celebs. We’re talking YouTubers, Viners and even Instagram models.
Here's who is taking part:
You've got beauty vlogger Blair Fowler, Vine famous brothers Cameron and Darius Benson and Instagram Models Jessica Versteeg and Brittany Oldehoff. Then there's the Youtube hosts of Rooster Teeth and Clevver, Viner Cole LaBrant and 'Magic' Viner Zach King. As well as a dancing couple, some pro frisbee players and a viral sensation.
But most importantly, (!!!) our one true Queen Tyler Oakley will be taking part with his loyal subject Korey Kuhl.
We’re not sure if it’s just a massive ploy to boost flagging ratings and cash in on the online trends but it’s a huge signal that mainstream media are now starting to recognise the popularity of social media influencers. Check this... Tyler Oakley's Top 5 videos have been viewed more times than the average rating of an episode from last season's race. And that's JUST Tyler's stats. While Viners may not have the same loyal fanbase, we're preeeeetty sure a few of Cole LaBrant's 6.7 million followers might tune in.
So now we ask the question, what could we possibly expect from the social media savvy cast of this season? Some kind of weekly behind the scenes vlog? Can we look forward to Tyler Oakley taking part in a Q & Slay with the natives of Bali? Or maybe Blair Fowler doing a haul of beauty products from Greenland!? Either way, we can’t wait to watch!
We do have one very important problem with the casting decision though… where the HELL are Lil' Bub and Jiff the Dog!? Rude.
