This unloved classic needs a reissue immediately...
After endless reissues, cover songs and announcements that went nowhere, this weekend officially marked the tenth anniversary of the release of My Chemical Romance's landmark The Black Parade album.
Operatic, ambitious and an almost complete departure from their early sound and aesthetic, it saw the band jump from emo heroes to stadium-straddling icons of the scene, their complex stageshow seeing them run through the entire album in order to create the full story before the crowd's very eyes.
But here's the thing - why is this album lauded and celebrated to the skies when their finest album has gone more than ten years without any reissue or reassessment.
We are of course referring to Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge.
Yes, while The Black Parade may have the bigger following, the band's second album was arguably their finest collection of songs. Just think of the hits - "Helena", "I'm Not Okay...", "The Ghost Of You" - all huge crowd pleasers that soar with cinematic videos to accompany them.
Then there's the likes of "Thank You For The Venom", a heavy call-to-arms that made teenagers go nuts long before the released, um, "Teenagers".
And then there's standout track "You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison" which actually laid the groundwork for what would come on The Black Parade, mixing some upbeat Queen-esque piano riffing in with their pop punk stylings, expanding their sound and delivering one of their catchiest ever tracks.
So, while The Black Parade gets all the praise this year, we are left wondering - what happened to the love for Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge?
Gerard - we expect a reissue with bonus tracks ASAP. Get it sorted!
