Time to examine the evidence and figure out why. We may need a few slices to help...
Pizza and pop punk. Pop punk and pizza. A pairing so ingrained in our young Blink loving minds that we never realised that it makes no sense. What makes pizza the foodstuff of choice for all your favourite bands? Why was is the queue at a Warped Tour or Slam Dunk burger stand a quarter of the length of the line for pepperoni slices? What is it about this, admittedly delicious, Italian foodstuff that has caused its association with the kids raised on a healthy diet of Green Day?
Oh yeah, we're asking the real questions today people! Let's have an "investigate" and get to the bottom of just what makes pizza so damn pop punk.
From Pete Wentz interviews to The Wonder Years lyrics and even a 5SOS "joke" song, all your favourite pop punk acts just won't stop banging on about pizza. It's practically an official merch item at this point.
As anyone who has ever been in a band, rolling around the country in a beat up van with a pile of expensive instruments in the back, can tell you, there ain't much money left in the budget for expensive dinners. 1 pizza. $10-20. Everybody's happy.
We personally ate EVEN MORE PIZZA than normal in 2002 when Pizza Hut made use of "All The Small Things" in their summer ad campaign. Then, when they followed it up with their very own scene affiliated clothing line, that's when sh*t got even realer.
From "Two Guys, A Girl, and A Pizza Place". Excuse the fashion, it was filmed a LONG time ago.
