NEWSFLASH: Chris Brown is still the absolute worst.
Earlier this week we reported on the attempted suicide of 20 year old singer, Kehlani. The r&b darling had been involved in a social media storm that proved overwhelming for the young star. Thankfully, multiple outlets are reporting that Kehlani is home and recovering but, unfortunately, that's not where her drama ends.
Chris Brown isn't known for his outstanding temperament but his latest outburst involving Kehlani's ordeal is even worse than one would expect from him. In a series of tweets, Chris threw enormous amounts of shade at Kehlani and doubted the authenticity of her suicide attempt.
Girls be mad at a nigga for fucking around wit bitches but her DMs got more names then the Declaration of Independence. #YEAHIMTHROWINGSHADE— Chris Brown (@chrisbrown) March 30, 2016
There is no attempting suicide. Stop flexing for the gram. Doing shit for sympathy so them comments under your pics don't look so bad— Chris Brown (@chrisbrown) March 30, 2016
If Chris or anyone else fails to understand the importance of showing understanding for people with mental illness, here are a couple of stats that he should pay extra attention to.
So many people in need of serious help fail to seek treatment because of attitudes like Chris'. Not only does he sex shame women (which can cause mental distress in its own right), he downplayed the seriousness of a woman's fragile condition.
Chris Brown has been in & out of prison & rehab, and has had mental breakdowns on TV yet discredits someone's suicidal thoughts??— NovelistPrice (@Novelistprice) March 30, 2016
Suicide is NOT a joke @chrisbrown. Your misogyny is disgusting & if you don't think attempted suicide is real, look at your own career.— Daniel Christopher (@MisterPreda) March 30, 2016
Suicides & Attempted suicides are NOT a joke. People that are struggling may be afraid to seek help bc of the people who joke about it...— Ricky Dillon (@RickyPDillon) March 30, 2016

Being in the public eye can also contribute to what Kehlani went through. Other artists have spoken candidly about what they have experienced as a famous person struggling with every day mental health issues.
The truth is that mental health still carries such a terrible stigma and Chris' actions aren't making things any better. Being that Chris, himself, has had his own breakdowns (he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2014) and struggles in the public eye, you would think that he would be the last person to judge Kehlani.
Overall, it's not just Chris. His comments had thousands of retweets which means that accusing someone of faking their own suicide attempt is really a mainstream idea that people can get behind. Either way, I think it's definitely time we start taking mental illness seriously because when people are gone, they're gone. Social media has seemingly intensified conditions that lead to Kehlani's current situation and hopefully Chris can remember that before he fires off more reckless statements.
