As tributes to David Bowie, dead at 69, flooded in yesterday, it became apparent that the always surprising pop legend had planned his artful exit from this world meticulously.
There was the release of final album Blackstar just two days before he passed away. Final single "Lazarus" opened with the lyric "Look up here, I'm in Heaven!", it's video set in a hospital bed before Bowie recoils into a dark cupboard in the final moments, bidding goodbye to fans one last time.
Frequent collaborator Tony Visconti confirmed that this had been Bowie's plan all along:
He always did what he wanted to do. And he wanted to do it his way and he wanted to do it the best way. His death was no different from his life - a work of Art.Tony Visconti
But Bowie had also made sure to add in a few moments of humour for his final moments.
For example, eagle-eyed twitter users have recently uncovered the final account the great man followed.
