Twigs is back and better than ever.
Say what you want about FKA twigs, but she's an artist that's making waves in the music industry, and is probably one of the more important artists out there at the moment.
While personally I felt her debut album LP1 and subsequent EP M3LL155X were interesting, I thought it was all a bit lacking in melody.
Then, last night (18 February), Twigs changed tact completely, unveiling an sublime audio visual for her new single "Good To Love".
The song is wrought with emotion, hints of gentle eroticism and an undercurrent of passion, and really showcases that without the theatrics and pointless electronics, Twigs is actually a really strong vocalist.
The song's structure is also more traditional, and it might be the first time that FKA twigs has really dedicated herself to a chorus and a memorable hook. However, where the song really comes to life in it's final few moments following an almost supernatural interlude. Stabbing bass pads trick the mind into thinking it's all going to kick off, while vocal distortions add texture. It's really quite special.
Whether this is a sign that FKA twigs is ready to become an actual superstar is debatable, but it's definitely a move in the right direction.
