Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke were dealt a huge blow last week when they were ordered to pay Marvin Gaye’s family a sum of over $7 million. This was the conclusion of a copyright case which had raged on in courts since last October.
Since then Pharrell has likely been quietly stewing over the decision but he has finally taken the opportunity to publically stew. Speaking to the Financial Times (his first interview since the decision) Pharrelll spoke openly about his dissapointmet at the verdict.
"This applies to fashion, music, design ... anything. If we lose our freedom to be inspired we're going to look up one day and the entertainment industry as we know it will be frozen in litigation. This is about protecting the intellectual rights of people who have ideas.... Everything that's around you in a room was inspired by something or someone.
