We hardly knew ye'
Grooveshark is dead.
The streaming site, which had been operating for nearly a decade, announced yesterday that it would be ceasing operations following a settlement with a number of large music entities.
We started out nearly ten years ago with the goal of helping fans share and discover music. But despite best of intentions, we made very serious mistakes. We failed to secure licenses from rights holders for the vast amount of music on the service.Grooveshark
Grooveshark was a definite hangover from the old world before the rise of paid services. The site survived way passed its sell-by date and for that we are grateful.
The site allowed users to stream music (often times full albums) in the same way you continue do something even when you're 100% sure it's illegal/bad news.

RIP #Grooveshark. Incredibly powerful platform that allowed so many of us to reach each other. You will be missed.— TYCHO (@ISO50) May 1, 2015
Grooveshark is with the angels now. Illegally stream something in its memory.
