Ten points to Internet!
As we all no doubt know, which Hogwarts house you are sorted into is serious business, and will completely affect who you are as a person for the rest of your life.
Sadly, in our harsh reality, figuring out your house is hard. Sure, you can take all the quizzes, buy all the Gryffindor merch to prove a point and even write to J.K Rowling asking her - but without the real Sorting Hat, there's no true way of knowing your alignment in the wizarding world of Harry Potter.
The Sorting Hat! I'm in demand! So popular am I That I've four thousand folks to sort, that's three whole days, oh my!!— The Sorting Hat Bot (@SortingBot) April 8, 2015
@SortingBot is every nerd's dream: the magic of Hogwarts combined with the awesomeness of social media. The brainchild of Darius Kazemi, The Sorting Hat Bot is programmed to throw a randomly generated iambic tetrameter rhyme at anyone who follows it, and place them in either Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff or Slytherin.
@marielicious_01 The anger of a porcupine, the ethic of a skunk In Hufflepuff you do belong for you are very drunk— The Sorting Hat Bot (@SortingBot) April 11, 2015
While hilarious, its one downside is that its sorting isn't quite yet based on character. In fact, the house it assigns you is completely random. So don't expect the Sorting Bot to care about all those tweets you just posted about being brave, to screw the algorithm into sorting you into Gryffindor. Yeah, don't think we don't know what you're doing.
@Soire I am the Hogwarts Sorting Hat, I know each time you cull It's plain to see that Slytherin's the right place for your skull— The Sorting Hat Bot (@SortingBot) April 9, 2015
"It was important to me to make the actual house assignment random, because I think beautiful interactions happen when people encounter the random," Darius explains to The Next Web. "It’s impossible to ‘game’ a purely random draw, and I think that adding chaos and serendipity into people’s lives is a worthwhile goal."
Well, the PopBuzz Twitter have followed the Sorting Bot, but the sorting is averaging at one per minute with hundreds of people following, so we're still waiting with baited breath to see where we end up. We'll keep you posted...
UPDATE: We're in Ravenclaw. This is acceptable; we are, after all, very very intelligent.
@popbuzz I am the Hogwarts Sorting Hat, my centrifuge is staid To Ravenclaw I add your name, since you are retrograde— The Sorting Hat Bot (@SortingBot) April 17, 2015
