Second-hand embarrassment, dads vs daughters, lots and lots of Taylor Swift and the Carlton - 2014 had it all.
But one thing that always reigns supreme, year after year, is viral dance videos. Ever since we saw this guy strut his stuff in 2006...
...the internet has been hooked on dance videos. And 2014 has been no exception.
Every month has had its fair share of epic viral dances, but we've picked out our monthly highlights. So time to stretch out, warm up, and join us in our Year of Dance...
Twerking Stormtroopers??? Okay. This awesome video set the bar for the year in terms of dancing AND geekery. If Star Wars: Episode VII hadn't been made, we'd have been happy with this.
In a routine that would give Solange and Juelz a run for their money, dance choreographer Kathy Bunker stepped onto the floor with her son Blake, to dance at his wedding. What starts off as something that seems a little bit Motherboy suddenly launches into an amazing routine that apparently nobody at the reception was expecting.
While it seems as though this video would be guaranteed second-hand embarrassment, Andrew Wilcox's 30-minute punishment of dancing on the busiest corner in his town after losing to his brother in basketball turned out to be one of the most fun videos this year. From the gorgeous mountain backdrop, to the amazing playlist his brother made, to all the people who joined in (one of whom he ended up dating for a while!), This one has it all.
Style magazine i-D created this excellent guide to the dance styles you may never have heard of. Between rooftops and car parks, their talented teams cover everything from Arabesque to Turf FeinZ - with plenty of Rumba, Northern Soul and even some Death Drop in between.
More than half of the video of Pitman High School's talent show highlights are dedicated to this one act - with good reason. Brett Nichols' tribute dance to MJ's "Billie Jean" is on POINT - and the crowd absolutely loves it. It's easy to see why he won overall.
If we all took our cues from babies, the world would be a happier place (just ask any twenty-something). This modern dance troupe found themselves a new choreographer who can truly channel deep and complex feelings through their fluid motions - feelings such as "feed me", "naptime" and "I pooped".
This heartwarming clip of a begrudging dad dancing along to Ariana Grande with his daughter (who apparently came up with the routine) is one part dance, and five parts sass. It's hard to tell who's messing with whom the most.
Sir, please arrest yourself, these moves are a crime. In a bit of fun with the local kids, a Kansas City Police officer challenges them to a dance-off, and sets the bar pretty low with the most dad-like moves you've ever seen. The kids barely need to do anything to win, the embarrassment is defeat enough.
New Taylor Swift music happened in September, and the world lost it. The dancerific video for Tay's first single for 1989 had the world in a viral dancing frenzy.
Mackenzie did it behind people's backs in a store.
This news anchor did it - much to the chagrin of his co-host.
Matt Steffanina and 11 year-old Taylor Hatala killed it to this remix.
These 1980's aerobic dancers did it without realising it.
And who can forget yet another adorable daddy/daughter combo??
Fans of The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air were waiting with baited breath for Alfonso "Carlton" Ribeiro to break out his signature dance move as a contestant on Dancing With The Stars. Four weeks into the show, he finally did the thing - and did NOT disappoint.
With puns, dancing and root vegetables, First Lady Michelle Obama has NAILED the Vine platform. It would be a crime if we skipped over this 6-second gem from October.
When he's not facing off against the latest threat to human and mutantkind, apparently Wolverine is brushing up on his Beyoncé. This guy absolutely NAILS the "Single Ladies" routine. It's the claws and cigar that make it.
It might be a bit early to call it, but hey - this video has reached over 4.5 million views in four days. And it's not hard to see why; this lil' tot jamming with bluegrass buskers Coyote & Crow in a New York subway station is all kinds of adorable.
